ISO 9001 is an international standard that ensures that a company uses an effective quality management program. Before a company can qualify it must document the procedures it uses to produce its product or deliver its service. These procedures act as a guide ensuring that the company meets a consistent quality level. In addition, the company must demonstrate that it has addressed all areas of the standard, and has documented procedures to ensure each area is monitored and controlled. To maintain certification an accredited third party must conduct regular onsite audits.
